Preparations
The alarm for the air sensor located before the column must be disabled before filling
the system/column with liquid (Alarms
→
Air_Alarm
→
Disabled).
Connect an empty column
Follow the instruction below to connect an empty column to ÄKTA ready XL.

Connect tubing between the system valve marked COLUMN BOTTOM
and the column bottom connection.

Connect tubing between the system valve marked COLUMN TOP and the
column top connection.
Connect a packed column without
bypass lines/valves
Follow the instruction below to connect a pre-packed column without bypass lines/
valves to ÄKTA ready XL.

Action
1
Connect tubing to the system valve marked COLUMN BOTTOM, but do
not connect the other end of the tubing to the bottom of the column at this
time.

Set the system column valves to the UpFlow position.

Using the pump, fill the system with an appropriate liquid for column in-
stallation.

When the system, including the tubing connected to the column bottom
system valve, is filled with liquid, connect the other end of the tubing to the
bottom of the column.

Connect tubing between the top of the column and the system valve
marked COLUMN TOP.
Note:
If the column will be run in downflow mode after the connection, the tubing
connected to the column top must also be filled with liquid before it is con-
nected to the column top.
