TEXTURING MILK
WARNING - RISK OF BURNS:
During operation and shortly thereafter, the
steam wand will be very hot and hot steam and hot water could escape from the
steam wand. Do not hold your hands and arms near the steam wand tip. Always
ensure that the steam wand points to the drip tray, when not in use.
Young Child-
ren must always be supervised when the espresso machine is in their reach.
Do not lift the steam wand out of the milk as long as steam is given off, to avoid that
hot milk will splash out and hot steam could escape. To avoid splashing of hot milk,
before removing the milk, always stop the steam flow by turning the hot water/steam
switch to the vertical position and wait 1-2 seconds. After texturing, the steam wand
will be hot. Only touch the steam wand at the handle to avoid scalding!
CAUTION:
Do not use glass vessels for texturing.
Even heat-resistant glass
may crack during texturing due to the local heating up. Metal vessels are suited
best. Porcelain (china) may be used as well.
Note
You cannot use the espresso functions and steam function at the same time.
Note
If the machine is run continuously for 60 seconds (1 minute), allow the machine to
cool for 1 minute before next use.
Various useful tips for texturing milk are given in section ‘Tips for Best Results/Tips
for Texturing Milk’.
1. Ensure that the water tank is filled with a sufficient amount of water (at least
250 ml; see: ‘Preparation’). If required, press the power button to switch on the
appliance and wait until the power button is illuminated continuously (appliance
is ready for operation).
2. Fill a sufficiently large, high vessel made of porcelain or metal (e.g. coffee mug,
milk jug) with the desired amount of fresh, cold milk. When preparing usual cap-
puccino, you will need approx. 100ml milk. However, there must be enough
milk in the vessel to immerse the steam wand. The tip of the steam wand must
be immersed at least 1cm below the surface.
3. Ensure that the steam wand points at the drip tray. Press the steam button to
select the steam function. The steam button illuminates and the power button may
flash to indicate that the water system is heating for producing steam.
4. Wait until the power button is illuminated continuously. Then turn the hot water/
steam switch clockwise to produce a short steam blast for purging the steam
