Problem
Possible Reason
The Solution
The extraction volume is
too small.
See: ‘Special Features for Advanced Users’.
The amount of
extracted coffee
has changed, alt-
hough all settings
are the same.
As coffee beans age, the
extraction rate changes and
can affect the extracted
volume.
Use freshly roasted coffee beans with a 'Roasted On' date
and consume between 5-20 days after that date.
The machine is
making an unusu-
al loud and con-
tinuous pumping
noise.
Not enough water in the
water tank.
Fill the water tank. The filling level must be between
250ml and 1500ml (MAX).
The water tank is not
inserted correctly.
Push the water tank down at the back of the appliance
until the the water tank lid levels up with the top of the
appliance.
The coffee is too
cold.
You did not pre-heat the
cups.
Rinse your cups and mugs via the hot water function, and
place your cups onto the warming plate, before starting an
extraction (see: ‘Pre-Heating’).
You did not pre-heat the
portafilter.
Pre-heat the portafilter and filter basket via the hot water
function (see: ‘Pre-Heating’).
The milk is not hot enough
(if making cappuccino or
latté etc).
Use a metal milk jug for texturing milk. During texturing,
hold your hand on the milk jug to feel the temperature
(see: ‘Texturing Milk’).
No crema.
The coffee powder is not
tamped firmly enough.
Apply the correct pressure (15-20kg) when tamping the
coffee powder (see: ‘Filling the Filter Basket’).
The coffee powder is too
coarse.
Use coffee powder suited for espresso machines or adjust
the grind size accordingly (see: ‘The Grind’). Pre-ground
coffee powder is labelled accordingly.
The coffee powder is stale.
Use freshly ground coffee beans. Store coffee powder in
an airtight container. However, do not store it for more
than 1 week.
The filter basket is clogged, Clean the filter basket. You may open clogged holes in the
filter mesh via a needle or the fine pin of the cleaning tool
(see: ‘Cleaning the Filter Basket and Portafilter’).
The filter bas-
ket sticks to the
group head, when
removing the por-
tafilter.
This may happen occasio-
nally.
Install the portafilter. Press the 1 cup button and wait for
the appliance to stop the function automatically. Then
remove the portafilter.
