SPECIAL FEATURES FOR ADVANCED USERS
The factory settings are suitable for most cases. You can adapt the extraction volume
to your individual liking.
Note
Even after programming your own settings, the factory settings will be kept in
memory and can be restored (see: ‘Resetting the Appliance to Factory Settings’).
When problems occur that may originate in inappropriate settings, you should
reset the appliance to the factory settings. Many problems can be solved this way.
PROGRAMMING THE EXTRACTION VOLUME
You can pre-program the extraction volume within a wide range (see the following
table). Use this feature to pre-set the appliance according to your liking. If you prefer
normal coffee (Long Black), you can use this feature to ease the making of normal
coffee by avoiding the annoying addition of hot water. The appliance will brew
your coffee automatically using the selected amount of water. However, you should
adapt the grind size and amount of coffee powder to this procedure.

Note
When you have programmed a high extraction volume (e.g. for Long Black), but
occasionally wish to extract an espresso with the appropriate low extraction volu-
me, simply stop the extraction manually. This is done by pressing the previously
selected function button (1 cup or 2 cups; will be illuminated during the extraction)
as soon as the desired volume has been given off.
While programming the extraction volume, the appliance will skip the pre-infusion
function. The pre-infusion function is used for moistening the coffee powder before
starting the extraction. Thus, we recommend to program the extraction volume without
coffee powder.
Important:
Via this procedure, the previously programmed extraction volume will
be overwritten. There is no way to revoke the process. Only the factory settings
can be restored. However, this will reset all functions and individual settings of the
appliance: both brewing functions, the water hardness setting, and the amount of
water given off since the last descaling process.
