TURBOTEST 500B Messages

The following display messages are listed alphabetically for easy reference.

Be sure laser output is properly set in Laser Adjustment
screen under OPM menu. Perform the required test
procedures over.

The amount of light detected
is below the range of the
TURBOTEST 500B.

Clean all fiber optic connectors again and check
for excessive fiber bends. Perform the required test
procedures over. Be sure laser output is properly set
in Laser Adjustment screen under OPM menu. Perform
the required test procedures over.

REFERENCE NOT VERIFIED The TURBOTEST 500B is unable

to verify the reference cable
value.

Clean all fiber optic connectors again.

If operating in TURBO mode, perform the reference
setup procedures again. Refer to Section 4

If operating in OLTS mode, perform the reference setup
procedures again. Refer to Section 6

Solving Test, Print and Software Problems

This section describes how to solve problems you may encounter while using the TURBOTEST
500B instrument or PC software.

Problem

Cause

Solution

The unit beeps twice when
attempting to reach a return
loss reference value of
greater than 40 dB with the
reference cable wrapped
around the mandrel.

The reference cable
could be dirty or
damaged.

Clean the reference cable connectors and optical ports on the
TURBOTEST 500B. Check the adapter for cracks or damage. Perform
the reference setup procedures again using the newly cleaned jumper
cable for accurate results.

If you are still unable to reach a return loss measurement greater than
50 dB, then the reference cable might need to be replaced.

The unit beeps twice when
attempting to set the 14.6
dB (ORL) reference with an
unwrapped reference cable.

The reference cable
could be dirty or
damaged.

Clean the reference cable connectors and optical ports on the
TURBOTEST 500B. Check the adapter for cracks or damage. Be
