4 The [POWER ADJUST] option is highlighted by default. Press the [SELECT] soft key to display the

adjustment sub-screen.

5 Attach the APC connector on the reference cable to the Test Port.

6 Attach an adapter to the other end of the reference cable.

7 Press the [

soft key to select the laser to be adjusted.

8 Press the [OFF /ON/ 270/ 1K/ 2K] soft key to turn the selected laser [ON].

Do the following to the Optical Power Meter

9 Power on the Optical Power Meter.

10 Press the [

key to select a desired wavelength. The selected wavelength must correspond with

the operational wavelength of the TURBOTEST 500B.

11 Press the [dB/dBm] key to select [dBm] units of measure.

12 Attach the reference cable to the adapter cap (see Figure 7-1).

13 Attach the other end of the reference cable to the adapter that is already on the TURBOTEST 500B

reference cable.

14 Press and hold the [REF] key until the [HELD] label is displayed. The meter automatically "zeroes" the

display and begins measuring direct loss from the TURBOTEST 500B to the Optical Power Meter.

TURBOTEST 500B Reference Setup

Use the following procedures on the TURBOTEST 500B and the Optical Light Source to perform the
optical reference setup.

Refer to Figure 7-2 on page 50 for a related illustration.

Clean all fiber optic connectors before performing test procedures described below.

Do the following to the Optical Light Source

1 Power on the Optical Light Source and select the proper wavelength of operation. Allow the light

source to stabilize 1-2 minutes.

2 Attach the reference cable to the optical port located on the top of the unit.
