6. INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE AND
REPAIR OF THE SYSTEM
Maintenance described in this chapter may be carried out
by the user’s qualified personnel, with due attention to and
compliance with guidelines and safety regulations.

All mentioned operations must be done only on
dead and safely earthed switchgear.
•
Make sure that the unit is switched off safely.
•
Make sure that all precautions have been made
to avoid any possibility of re-powering.
•
Make sure that the switchgear is safely earthed
in accordance with the local regulations.
6.1 Logbook
The user is to keep a logbook with data relating to the
switchgear and any maintenance or repairs carried out.
The logbook should at least include the following:
All significant incidents occurring in and with the
switchgear;
All faults;
All maintenance work carried out;
All repairs carried out.
6.2 Inspection and maintenance, general
Magnefix MD4 switchgear and the switches used in them
require little maintenance. However, inspections and
checks must be performed and the switchgear cleaned at
regular intervals.
6.2.1
Types of maintenance
There are two types of maintenance for Magnefix:
1. Maintenance the user can do:
Cleaning;
Inspection for visible deficiencies (corrosion,
discharge phenomena).
2. Maintenance to be carried out by qualified personnel:
Overhauls;
Repairs.
This manual only covers maintenance by the user.
You can make an appointment with Eaton Service to have
an overhaul or a repair carried out. You will find their
address and telephone number on the title page of this
manual.
6.2.2
Frequency
With a visual inspection of the switchgear surrounding and surface condition 6 months after installation the
requested maintenance interval is recommended.

the station. We advise that units which have not
been maintained for more than 20 years should be
