6) In order to enable correct basic measurings, set the correct VELOCITY for used
ultrasonic wave.
7) Set PROBE DELAY to the probe/material interface, as for conventional angle
probe, then S, P, D should correspond to the bottom reflection (P is the distance
from the probe index point to the weld axis, D is material thickness).
8) Set the time base range to make visible lateral echo (it runs the shortest path
under surface) and bottom reflection echo for used wave (probably longitudinal).
Area, where will be displayed diffraction of longitudinal wave, will defined this
way.
9) If there is any discontinuity in the weld axis, then another echo appears between
two echoes, Gate1 start point should be set to the “lateral” echo (which is
constant for given distance between probes), and the end point should be set to
the evaluated echo. Approximate reflector depth D=xx will be calculated based
on the time difference between lateral and discontinuity echoes and the distance
between probes 2S; the D value is displayed blue next to the gate, S is only for
information regarding the distance from probes to the weld axis.
NOTE: The
half
distance
between
probes
should
be
set
in
the
AUTOCALIBRATION mode (see 7.2. Automatic Calibration of Probe
Delay and Sound Velocity) as S1, thus S2, which is double, is full distance
between probes.
