Procedure

1

Run the installer of same version/build.

2

Select restore option.

Enter backup details such as location of backup files, protocol used with port number, and
credentials.

4

Review the backup information and provide the appliance deployment target ESXi.

5

Provide the hostname of the failed PSC and select deployment size.

6

Select data store and review network settings.

7

Finish to start the restoration.

Backup and recovery capabilities

Use the following information to review backup and recovery capabilities.

Deploy and test a Data Protection and Recovery solution for the backup and recovery of the management
VMware vSphere environment. This step is especially important with ELM configurations with multiple
PSCs that maintain replication synchronization using sequence numbers. Refer to the following links for

With VMware vSphere 6.5U1, you cannot use PSC snapshots with multi-site or HA configurations.

If you do not have a tested backup and recovery solution for the VMware vSphere 6.5U1 PSCs and
VMware vCenter servers, do not proceed with a VMware vSphere 6.5U1 ELM configuration. ELM adds
complexity to the backup and recovery solution, based on the number of PSCs and VMware vSphere
6.5U1 PSCs and VMware vCenter servers have differences in their respective backup strategies.
