Backing up Cisco MDS switches
Creating backups of startup and running configuration files
Create a backup of the Cisco MDS switch startup and running configuration files. Backups are stored on
the Cisco UCS C220 management server.
Before you begin
•
Start the TFTP service on each of the management servers.
•
If it does not already exist, create the following folder on each management server:
D:\Cisco\MDS\
switch-model
\config
•
Obtain the
int-mdsbackup
log on ID and password to log on to the Cisco MDS switches.
Procedure
1
Log in to the switch using PuTTY with the
int-mdsbackup
log on ID on the Converged System.

Use the
copy
command to create the configuration file backups.
copy startup-config tftp://192.168.101.93/9502/config/V00101MDxxxx_startup_$
(TIMESTAMP).config
copy running-config tftp://192.168.101.93/9502/config/V00101MDxxxx_running_$
(TIMESTAMP).config

What to do next
Schedule the backup to run on a regular basis.
Creating a script to purge older copies of the backup files
Create a script that can be schedule to run to delete old backups of the startup and configuration files.
