Getting the WAN Interfaces to work
PR2000 Installation Guide
29
•
Van Jacobson IP header Compression. Can be enabled or
disabled (disabled is more common and is the default).
•
LCP echo requests. Can be enable or disabled. LCP echo
requests can be sent periodically in a PPP link to detect line down
conditions and set the state of the PPP link properly.
•
Time interval in seconds to send Config Requests. The default
is 1. Increasing this parameter may be necessary if the
communication line has high latency (for example, satellite links).
•
Predictor Payload data compression. Can be enabled or
disabled. Payload data compression can be used only if the
PR2000 is on both sides of the link (see note about data
compression below).
If you are configuring an asynchronous serial interface (asynchronous SWAN or
ASYNC), you will also be asked to provide dial-in/out information (modem,
phone numbers, etc).
For PPP, you should also configure the Authentication (exit the PPP and
Encapsulation Menus and select option 6 in the Interface Menu).
Authentication will let you configure the authentication scheme to be used on
the dial-up ports. The options are the following:
•
“None” (no authentication, the session will start up upon
connection).
•
“Local” (the PR2000 will authenticate the client based on the local
user database).
•
“Remote” (the PR2000 will try to authenticate in the remote system
– for dial-out).
•
“Server” (the PR2000 will authenticate the remote system based on
RADIUS or TACACS).
Also, you will be able to select the authentication protocol to be used (PAP,
CHAP or both).
4.4.2 Frame Relay
When you select Frame Relay in the encapsulation menu, you will be asked to
set parameters specific to your leased line or frame relay connection (your
frame-relay provider should supply the necessary information).
•
SNAP IP. Enables or disables SNAP IP encapsulation. Normally, it
is disabled.
