J.1.1 Operational Requirements

The IP Packet Processor is available as a factory-installed option or,
depending on its originally shipped configuration, as a field-upgradeable
option. Use of the IP Packet Processor with the CDM-425 Advanced Satellite
Modem requires the following:

Power Requirements for the IP Packet Processor Board (CEFD P/N
PL-0000481) –Existing field units that meet either power supply configuration
requirement are user-upgradable in the field using CEFD Kit KT-0020922 – refer
to Section J.5 in this appendix for the field upgrade procedure using this kit.

J.1.2 CDM-425



CDM-425 Interoperability Compatibility/Limitations

A CDM-425 Advanced Satellite Modem that is equipped with the IP Packet
Processor is not interoperable for IP/Ethernet Traffic with a CDM-425 that is not
equipped with the IP Packet Processor.

IP Packet Processor Features

J.2.1 Streamline Encapsulation (SLE)

SLE can reduce the encapsulation overhead by as much as 65% compared to industry-standard
HDLC.
