4 Design and function
3DPIXA
CD40131 Version 1
23 / 99
4.3.1
Frame scan mode
The 3DPIXA camera is able to emulate a frame scan camera. Output data will be in real
frames and the VSync signal (or FVAL) will be generated. The information on frame start and
image size have to be supplied to the camera.
The trigger signal can be supplied as described in chapter 4.9, p. 31. The input connector of
the external signals has to be configured by the IO-configurator via CST (see chapter 6.6,
p. 57).
The image height (= number of scan lines per image) can be controlled by a fixed value or an
external signal depending on the object size.
For 3DPIXA dual cameras the frame scan mode with FVAL is obligatory. This mode
ensures the correct synchronization between the two separate cameras of the 3DPIXA
dual camera and frame grabber.
4.3.2
Concept of image synchronization via frame mode
The 3DPIXA camera is able to emulate a frame scan camera as already described in
chapter 4.3.1, p. 23. Output data will be in real frames and the VSync signal (or FVAL) will be
generated.
Fig. 6 shows a simplified representation of the synchronization in the 3DPIXA dual between
master camera and slave camera (left) and the processing in the frame grabber (right).

* If no external line trigger signal is used, the master camera generates an internal
line trigger signal that is determined by the integration time or the line period time
(line free run).
