3. All o th e r cra n k sh a ft jo u rn als have oil holes.
Replace the m ain bearing u p p e r h a l f as follows:
a. Install a main b earin g rem oving and install­
ing tool in oil hole in cran k sh aft journal.
N O T E : If such a tool is not available, a cotter pin
m ay be bent as required to do the job.
b. Rotate the cran k sh aft clockwise as viewed
from the front o f engine. This will roll upp er bearing out
o f block.
c. Oil new selected size upper bearing and insert
plain (unnotched) end between cran k sh aft and indented
or notched side o f block. Rotate the bearing into place
and remove tool from oil hole in cran k sh aft journal.
4. Oil new lower b earin g and install in bearing
cap.
5. Install main bearing cap with arrows pointing
toward front o f engine.
6. T o rq u e m ain b earin g cap bolts to specifications.

N O TE: Always replace the u pper and lower seal as
a unit. Install seal with lip facing fro n t o f engine.
T he rear m ain b earin g oil seal can be replaced (both
halves) without removal o f the crankshaft. Extreme care
should be exercised w hen installing this seal to protect
