D ra in tank.

R em ove tiller neck.

D isconnect m eter u nit fuel line and wiring.

R em ove holts attach in g tank supports to fram e.

R em ove tank com plete w ith m ounting bracket

and su p p o rt straps.

Rem ove tank from brackets and support straps,

if necessary.

Install in reverse o rd e r and replace antisqueak

m aterial.

CLEANING FUEL SYSTEM

Cleaning

If trouble is due to c o n tam in ated fuel or foreign

m a terial th a t has been put into the tank, it can usually be

cleaned. If tank is rusted internally, it should be
replaced.

Rem ove fuel tank.

Rem ove fuel inlet filter at ca rb u re to r and

inspect for co n tam in atio n . If filter is plugged replace
(leave fuel line disconnected).

Locate tank away from heat, flame, or o th er

source o f ignition. Rem ove fuel gauge tank unit and
inspect condition o f filter. If filter is co n tam in ated a new

filter should be installed upon reassem bly.

C om plete d ra in in g o f tank by rocking it and

allow ing fuel to ru n out o f tank unit hole.

Purge fuel tank w ith steam or ru n n in g hot w ater

for at least five m inutes. Pour w ater out o f tank unit hole

(rock tank to assure com plete rem oval o f w ater).

WARNING: This procedure will not remove

fuel vapor. Do not attempt any repair on

tank or filler neck where heat or flame is

required.

D isconnect inlet fuel line at p um p and use air

pressure to clean fuel line and fuel re tu rn line (if
