280 Dauntless
DC Electrical System
This vessel’s DC electrical system is powered by a
series of batteries that are charged when the engines
are running or by connecting to shore power. The house
batteries power the engines, trim tabs, helm, lighting,
livewell, fresh/raw water systems, and sun shade.
Batteries
Depending on options selected, there are four batteries in
the bilge and three in the console lounge locker (see Figure
4.1.1 and Figure 4.2.1). Bilge batteries supply power to
the engine(s) and house, and the console lounge locker
batteries supply power to either the gyroscopic stabilizer
or the trolling motor. Always secure batteries in battery trays with retaining straps. To remove a battery, disconnect
cable from negative terminal first, followed by positive cable; remove retaining straps.
NOTICE
Ensure that the batteries meet Mercury’s AGM
and CCA requirements.
Batteries contain hazardous substances which
can cause serious injury. Avoid contact with
skin, eyes, and clothing. If contact occurs,
immediately flush with large quantities of water
and obtain medical assistance.
