DS3 ATM Network Access Module

Inc. 

I/O-5 (Physical slot 5) and I/O-13 (physical slot 17) are the DS-3 
protection module slots and I/O-7 (physical slot 7) is the recommended 
DS1 protection slot of the 85-3004 and 85-3007 chassis.  I/O-5 protects 
I/O-1 to 4 and 6 to 8; I/O-13 protects I/O-9 to 12 and 14 to 17.  I/O-7 
when used for DS1 protection provides protection for DS1 IOMs in any 
slot.  If the user does not desire to protect line- and trunk-side interfaces, 
the system can be equipped with 17 interface modules. 

The DNA is not restricted to specified slots but can be located in most any 
slot in the chassis.  If protection is required, it is recommended that I/O-5 
be used to protect Octal DS-3/STS-1 modules and I/O-13 to protect DS-3 
ATM Network Access modules or vice versa.  For protection, Octal DS-
3/STS-1 and DS-3 ATM Network Access modules cannot use same 
protection modules because the front modules are different. 

5.18.2.1 

General Mechanical Representation 

The DS-3 ATM Network Access IOM is approximately 14 inches high 
and plugs into the midplane for connections to the rear IOM and to the SF 
and SP modules.  Refer to 

Figure 5.18-1

 for an illustration of the midplane 

connector, the DNA module and the front of the module.  Refer to  

Table 5.18-A
