Preventive Maintenance
NOTICE
Operation of the EGR system without
sufficient coolant will damage the
EGR cooler. The EGR valve MUST be
disconnected prior to the fill procedure
in order to protect the EGR cooler from
thermal damage.
NOTICE
Fleetguard® Restore™ contains no
antifreeze. Do not allow the cooling
system to freeze during the cleaning
operation.
NOTICE
The system must be filled properly to
prevent air locks or serious engine
damage can result. During filling, air
must be purged from the engine coolant
passages. Make sure to open the petcock
on the aftercooler for aftercooled
engines. Wait two to three minutes to
allow the air to be vented; then add the
mixture to bring the coolant level to the
top.
2. Connect INSITE™ electronic service tool.
Record the current value of the Maximum
Engine Speed without Vehicle Speed
Source parameter located in the Vehicle
Speed Source section of Features and
Parameters. If the current value is higher
than 2,000 rpm, adjust the Maximum
Engine Speed without Vehicle Speed
Source parameter to 2,000 rpm.
Note: Some applications can have a manual
bleed valve that is required to be opened to
properly fill the system. The upper radiator
pipe is a common location for bleed valves.
NOTICE
Do not allow the engine speed to
exceed 2,000 rpm while the EGR valve is
disconnected. Operation at higher rpm in
this mode can result in engine damage.
3. If applicable, open the manual bleed
valve before filling the cooling system.
4. Once filled, close the manual bleed valve.
NOTICE
The system has a designed fill rate of up
to five gallons (19 liters) per minute.
Note: Monitor the coolant temperature
with INSITE™ electronic service tool. If
the thermostat does not open before the
coolant temperature reaches 195° F (90° C),
discontinue the flush operation, inspect the
thermostat, and replace it if necessary.
Note: The performance of Restore™ is
dependent on time, temperature, and
concentration levels. An extremely scaled
or flow-restricted system, for example, will
require higher concentrations of cleaners,
higher temperatures, longer cleaning times,
or the use of Restore Plus™.
Restore™ can safely be used up to twice the
recommended concentration levels.
Restore Plus™ must be used only at its
recommended concentration level.
Extremely scaled or fouled systems will require
more than one cleaning.
