5. Remove and reinsert power plug.

Troubleshooting

This section is provided in this chapter to assist you with troubleshooting.

A.1.3.1

CPLD FW Upgrade Failed

Do not switch off system power until "

ipmitool

prompts

Firmware upgrade procedure successful"

or "

Firmware upgrade procedure failed"

message. Upgrading the "IO-Module" CPLD may take

very long (~25min).



In any case, if you observe that the firmware upgrade fails, repeat the firmware
upgrade procedure again

.



You cannot see the Firmware upgrade progress immediately. As the first step, the

ipmitool

loads the firmware image into the BMC. This may take some time

(~2min). In the next step, the

ipmitool

states Writing firmware: 100% completed.

Please do not stop execution at this point,

ipmitool

is still working!

Wait until the following message appears Firmware upgrade procedure
successful (~3min).



The “IO-Module” CPLD on early MaxCore prototypes cannot be upgraded at all
(even when the revision can be read). Any attempt will fail during programming
immediately. The revision of the respective system module can be determined
only by dismounting the device and evaluating the part number at the PCB
(8406843P41A PCB REV A). Contact your local Artesyn executive, if the firmware
upgrade on such a system becomes necessary.
Subsequent firmware upgrades can be performed much faster due to a change in
the I2C controller implementation in the CPLDs.
