7.6 MaxCore PCIe Management
This is applicable for mCPU and the related package is pciemgmt .
The MaxCore ExpressFabric switch has the unique capability to connect each individual Virtual
Function (VF) on single root I/O virtualization (SRIOV) capable PCIe cards to one of many CPUs.
Many VFs can surely be connected to the same CPU and the CPU’s hypervisor can connect VFs
to Virtual Machines (VMs).
In MaxCore, this configuration process is handled via a management CPU (mCPU), which
initially owns the physical PCIe cards via their physical functions (PF) and is responsible for the
assignment of VFs to many payload CPUs (pCPU).

MaxCore Startup
7.6.1.1
System Power up Sequence
This section describes the startup sequence of the MaxCore system. You can initiate the
MaxCore system by plugging in the power cable to any of the three power supplies.
Start-up Sequence
1. The backplane management power is available and the BMC and its associated
control logic (companion/glue CPLD) is powered.
2. The BMC loads its image from flash and boots.
During or after these steps, you can plug in power cables to the remaining power supplies.
After plugging the power cable to the remaining power supplies, press the power button. It is
important to press the power button only if all power cables are connected, otherwise any at
the time of the pressure unconnected power supplies are not used by the system. Observe that
the LED of the power button blinks when the power button is pressed during BMC boot. This
indicates that only BMC is booting and the payload power on is delayed. It is not necessary to
press the power button again.
