Networks that exhibit problems in the parameters above may still demonstrate tolerable
data application performance, where TCP retries and low expectations of browser and E-
mail response will conceal issues.
Important!
Unaddressed problems in the parameters for voice will result in
noticeable voice quality degradation (for example, choppiness; audible delay), perhaps
even symptoms such as dropout of one channel in a conversation. Alcatel-Lucent
recommends that testing be done with the intended network architecture to determine
if additional QoS treatment is required. Even in the public Internet environment, it is
possible to deploy voice successfully, given care in designing your solution.
Additional load on the network
Certain end-user features such as the internal video client require ActiveX® controls to
be loaded on users’ workstations. Some features require a 1.4.2 or greater Java® Runtime
Engine.

a The jitter management algorithm used in My Teamwork’s voice MCU is designed to interoperate well with the jitter management
already present in today's gateways and VoIP endpoints. Typically, products such as PSTN gateways and IP telephones (including
the integrated PSTN gateway inside our bridge) perform fairly sophisticated jitter management, and it actually damages voice
quality to have the My Teamwork MCU provide additional management. In typical usage, the MCU jitter buffer averages about 2
voice packets, which empties when the remote endpoint stops sending because of VAD (or when there is a drought in the rate of
incoming packets). Alcatel-Lucent has deployed extensively with over-the-open-Internet VoIP and our treatment regularly
provides superior conference quality.
