The theoretical worst case would occur if every conference call has a slave leg to every
other server in the stack. It would be difficult to get to this state. In such a worst-case
scenario in a 3-server stack with 120 ports/server and 6 participants per conference, you
would have 30 calls per server, each with 1 user spilled over to each of the other two
ACSs. Thus, you would have a mesh of 180 slave legs, for a total slave bandwidth
consumption of 18Mb/sec.
•
Intra-stack communication.
Negligible bandwidth.
•
Data replication.
Replication occurs as data items change in the primary system’s
database – these updates include conference scheduling, user provisioning, CDR and
IM log updates. These updates represent a stream of low-volume UDP traffic, on the
order of 10Kbit/sec during very busy times.
Important!
If you add any customization to the Default Organization (for example,
custom prompts used as the Default prompt set), that customization needs to also be
transferred to the secondary. If not, the replication process to the secondary will fail
due to the missing item.
•
Recordings.
Recordings traverse the stack backplane when they are being queued for
playback (or stored in a database after recording).

The following table indicates capacities consisting of phone calls only. The testing that
yielded these results was performed on an enterprise server, the HP DL380 G4 with dual
3.6 Ghz processors and a 1 Gbps front plane. The limits will vary depending on the server
type, configuration, network capacities, and concurrent user activity.
