3. POWER SUPPLY
The following options are available for the power supply of the instrument:
NiCd batt. pack 7.2V built-in or supplement. batt.pack ZB 2590-AP
Mains supply unit or battery charger 12V/800mA
ZB 2590-NA
Electr. isol. power supply cable (10..30V DC, 1A)
ZB 2590-UK
Our product line includes corresponding accessories.
3.1 Battery Operation and Supply Voltage Control
A battery pack with 6 NiMH cells (7.2V/1600mAh) is used as the standard
power supply of the device. At a current consumption of approx 31mA, they
last for an operating time of 52 hours. If the illumination is constantly switched
on, this operating period is reduced to approx. 28 hours. To extend the
operating time for long term recording it is possible to operate the device in
Sleep Mode (s. 8.6) or to just switch the display off. When a remaining battery
capacity of approx. 10% is reached, the symbol
will be indicated in the
status line of the display. Generally, the batteries should then be recharged
using the supplied mains adapter ZB 2590-NA, otherwise the batteries can
suffer damage from deep discharge. If the battery is completely discharged,
the instrument will switch off. However, meas. data and time will be maintained
in the battery buffered memory (see 3.5). A supplementary battery pack ZB
2590-AP can be used in exchange to immediately continue the device
operation.
Tips regarding the correct handling of rechargeable batteries:
In most cases, the batteries supplied are not charged when delivered!
If NiMH cells are only partly discharged, the full capacity cannot be
reached by a normal recharging.
Therefore, use the device until the batteries are nearly totally discharged.
Completely recharge the batteries afterwards.
As a result, the life of the batteries is significantly increased.
Completely recharged batteries will slowly discharge during storage,
therefore, they should be charged at least once per month.
The current battery voltage can be checked in the device configuration,
allowing an estimation of the remaining operating time.
3.2 Mains Operation
For external supply of the instrument and for recharging the batteries the
supplied mains adapter ZB 2590-NA (12V/800mA) must be connected to the
socket DC (5). After plugging in, the small lamp ´CHARGE´ is illuminated and
indicates that the batteries are being recharged. The batteries are recharged
after 4 hours, at maximum, and the small lamp switches off, i.e. the charger
circuitry has switched to trickle charge. The mains adapter can, offering a
buffer operation, stay continuously connected to the measuring instrument.
