Connecting
Telephones to the
LAN
Before connecting the telephones to the LAN, you should enable Auto
Discover Telephones in NetSet. (See “Using Auto Discovery for Initial
System Configuration” on page 164.
When you attach a new telephone to the network, the Telephones Auto
Discovery process finds it, assigns an extension to it, and adds the
information to the configuration database. The most efficient method of
adding telephones is to connect the telephones one at a time in the order
you want extensions assigned in the office. See “Configuring
System-Level Settings” on page 173 for information on setting a starting
extension number.
When initializing telephones, you should start with the telephone that
will serve as the Attendant Console (receptionist’s telephone). Typically,
the Attendant Console is the first extension, though this is merely a
convention.
If you plan to install an adjunct, install and configure all the telephones
first.
