Installing the NBX 100 Chassis

Every system must have one, and only one, NBX 100 NCP and disk
drive. The call processor must reside in the first slot of the chassis, just
below the space reserved for future expansion of the call processor
card. The disk drive resides in the same chassis as the call processor. A
system can have more than one chassis, but only one call processor
and disk drive.

■

In a chassis that holds a call processor, you can use the remaining slots
for any combination of NBX 100 8-Port Hub cards, NBX 100 4-Port
Analog Line cards, or Digital Line cards. In a chassis that does not have
a call processor you can mount hub cards and line cards in any slot.

■

You do not need to connect cards within a chassis to each other
through front panel connections. The chassis backplane connects
cards to each other within a chassis.

■

If the system has more than one chassis, each extra chassis must have
an NBX 100 8-port Hub card to allow connections from one chassis to
the next. To connect the chassis with the NCP to additional chassis,
use

one

of the following methods:

■

Connect a 10BASE2 (coax) cable from the NBX 100 NCP to the
NBX 100 8-port Hub card in the next chassis. If you have a third
chassis, use a BNC T connector in the middle chassis and extend
the cable to the hub card in the third chassis. Be sure to use proper
10BASE2 line terminators on open T connections.

OR

■

Connect a 10BASE-T UTP cable from the Uplink connector on the
NCP to any 10BASE-T port on the hub card in the second chassis.

■

To use a 10BASE-T UTP cable to connect from a hub card in one
chassis to a hub card in a different chassis, you must use a cable
where the transmit and receive wire pairs have been crossed over
to maintain correct signal polarity.
