Check All Alarm Functions
Check all alarm functions before and after starting
the engine. Check to see that all alarm functions
operate normally. Failure of an alarm system can
lead to major engine damage. Check the alarm
functions before and after starting the engine every
day.
When pushing the start switch to the ON position
before starting the engine, the alarm window
appears with audible sound on the display for about
3 seconds, then goes off. This alarm operation is
normal.
When the sensor detects a problem during
operation, the alarm indicator comes on with
audible sound on the display.
Under normal conditions, the display shows the
engine information such as engine speed, oil
pressure, coolant (freshwater) temperature and so
on.
Check for Engine Fluid Leaks
Before and after starting the engine, check for
coolant and seawater leaks. Also, check for engine
oil and fuel leaks.
Check the Electronic Control System
Make sure that the control lever can be operated
smoothly before starting the engine. If it feels heavy
to manipulate or binds up in any way, consult your
Yanmar dealer or distributor.
Be sure to check the following after initial
50 hours or one-month of operation, whichever
comes first.
• Replace the Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter
• Check the Electronic Control System
Operation
• Adjust the Propeller Shaft Alignment
Replace the Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter
During initial engine operation, oil is quickly
contaminated due to the break-in wear of internal
parts. Change the oil and filters.
Drain the lubricating oil while the engine is still
warm.
CAUTION! If the engine oil must be
drained while it is still hot, stay clear of the hot
engine oil to avoid being burned. ALWAYS wear
eye protection.
1. Remove the oil dipstick. Attach the rotary waste
oil pump (optional) and pump out the oil. For
easier draining, remove the oil filler cap (yellow)
(Figure 4-4, (1))
on top of the rocker arm cover.
