Section 5 - Maintenance and Repair.
This section contains maintenance and repair information of a general nature. Paragraph 5.1
lists some essential precautions to be observed when carrying out repair or maintenance
operations. Paragraph 5.2 defines the three maintenance levels and explains the type of work
that may be carried out at each level. A list of essential tools and equipment for the three
maintenance levels is given in Table 2.
Paragraphs 5.4 and 5.5 explain, respectively, how to order spare parts and the procedure for
returning machines or assemblies for repair.
Section 6 - Routine Maintenance and Servicing.
This section gives information about the periodic servicing and maintenance operations that are
required to maintain the ETM in good working order.
Section 7 - Removal and Replacement of Parts.
Section 7 gives instructions for removing and replacing and (where applicable) dismantling the
various assemblies in the ETM. Apart from Paragraph 7.1, which gives general instructions,
each sub-assembly is dealt with in a separate paragraph, i.e. the top cover (Paragraph 7.2), the
keyboard and display (Paragraph 7.3), printer mechanism (Paragraph 7.4), module receptacle
(Paragraph 7.5) and the lower cover and the printed circuit boards (Paragraph 7.6).
Section 8 - Fault Finding and Testing.
This chapter gives a general fault-finding guide. Paragraph 8.1 gives some general information
about fault-finding procedures and how to use the section. Following this, Paragraph 8.2 deals
with the various types of faults that may occur, and gives step-by-step instructions for
identifying and curing them.
Paragraph 8.3 explains the methods for testing the cables, wiring, and printed circuit boards as
part of the fault-finding process.
Details of the servicing of printed circuit boards are not given in this manual.
Section 9 - Assembly Drawings and Parts Lists.
Section 9 consists of three paragraphs. The first (9.1) gives some general information about the
assembly drawings and parts lists, and Paragraph 9.2 lists them in order. Paragraph 9.3 gives a
complete parts listing (in numeric and alphabetic order) of the parts required to build one
machine.
