Next, fit the knob on its spigot, locating the longer end of the spring
against the smaller of the two spigots adjacent to the knob’s locating
shaft (the shorter spigot is in fact the protruding end of the spring pin -
see Removing the Lower Paper Guide later, the longer spigot is the
spring locking spigot). Turn the knob to check that it is under slight
tension. If the knob is not tensioned, check that the end of the spring is
against the correct face of the smaller spigot (spring pin shaft).
Once the spring is correctly located, ease the knob partly off its shaft so
that it can clear the spring locking spigot and then turn the knob anti-
clockwise (under tension) to allow the web formation on the underside of
the knob to locate past the locking spigot. As soon as this occurs, push
the knob fully onto the shaft.
If the cut-out in the knob cannot be turned to allow the print head locking
shaft (see Figure 16) to locate in the cut-out in the knob then the locking
spigot is not correctly located in the pre-formed web.

Removing The Printer Roller
(a)
For ease of access, remove the blade, paper guide and print head locking
knob as described above.
(b)
Remove the E-clip from the end of the roller shaft and then slide the
bearing off the shaft.
(c)
Lock the protruding end of the motor shaft (opposite end to the bearing
and E-clip) using a suitably sized spanner (9BA) and then loosen the nut
at the motor end of the roller using the appropriate spanner detailed in
Table 2. THIS NUT HAS A LEFT HAND THREAD. When the nut has
been fully loosened the roller shaft can be turned by hand until it falls
free from the motor shaft. The roller can then be lifted clear.
(d)
Prior to refitting the roller, ensure that the left hand threaded nut is hard
against the roller.
