6.2.2 Removing a Paper Blockage
Because of the construction of the printer, very few paper blockages or jams will occur, and
these will be because of incorrect loading or usage.
It is essential that ONLY the instructions contained in this paragraph of the Service Manual
(or the associated User Manual) are used to remove paper blockages.
WARNING
DO NOT INSERT YOUR FINGERS INTO THE PRINTOUT EXIT; THERE IS A
SHARP BLADE AT THE BACK OF THE EXIT. IF, AFTER FOLLOWING THE
INSTRUCTIONS DETAILED BELOW, A PAPER BLOCKAGE IS DEFINITELY
ESTABLISHED AS BEING IN THE PRINTOUT EXIT THEN REMOVE ANY PAPER
CAUSING THE BLOCKAGE FROM THE EXIT USING A THIN PAIR OF
TWEEZERS OR SIMILAR TOOL.
If a paper blockage or jam does occur, open the top cover of the ETM and pull the paper
BACK OUT of the printer until all paper has been withdrawn. Once this has been
accomplished, tear off the distorted paper and reload the paper as described in Paragraph
6.2.1. If there is any requirement to release the printer head, the following operations can be
carried out by authorised personnel ONLY: -
1.
Turn the black, spring loaded, locking knob on the top of the printer in an anti-
clockwise direction until it is against its stop (approximately 1/4 of a turn). The print
head lock shaft should be in the cut-out part of the knob.
2.
With reference to Figure 4, carefully pull the print head assembly release tab away
from the printer for approximately one inch until the lock shaft is clear of the locking
knob. Care must be taken NOT to touch the revealed face and circuitry of the printer
head.
