Acids used for preservation of samples and decontamination of equipment are
potentially dangerous. Read the individual Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all
chemicals prior to use, storage, and transportation.
6.5
Wear latex gloves and safety glasses when handling acids during decontamination
and sample preservation.
7.0
RESPONSIBILITY
7.1
The QA Manager is responsible for:
7.1.1
Administering principals to assure adherence to procedures and policies
found in the SOP-E-160 and QAPP current version.
7.2
The Environmental Coordinator (EC) is responsible for:
7.2.1
Insuring the field technicians are properly trained and following correct
procedures involving the water quality samples.
7.2.2
Reviewing data from water quality analysis.
7.3
The Field sample technician is responsible for:
7.3.1
Having all necessary materials and supplies prior to going to the assigned
water quality monitoring sites to obtain samples.
7.3.2
Following the directives in the SOP-E-160 for sample handling and chain
of custody.
7.3.3
Following items listed within this procedure.
8.0
INSTRUCTIONS
8.1
Samples will be taken on a quarterly basis as listed in the Radioactive Materials
License or as directed by the EC. Also one QA sample will be taken annually.
The location of the QA sample will be determined by using a random number
generating program.
8.2
After arriving at location at which river will be sampled utilize the Equal Width
Increment (EWI) to determine sample locations by.
8.3
Measure the width of the river and divide into a minimum of twelve equal
segments.
8.4
Measure flow rate of stream using current meter at each segment as defined
above.
8.4.1
If water depth is less than 2.5 feet, measure the current at 60% down from
the surface.
