7.3.1.
Having all necessary equipment and supplies prior to going to the field to
obtain samples.
7.3.2.
Advising the EC of any deviations from planned activities or problems
encountered during sampling events.
7.3.3.
Following this procedure.

INSTRUCTIONS
8.1.
Grass vegetation will be sampled three times during the growing season at
locations determined by the EC. Sample locations will be determined by the
highest predicted contaminant concentrations as determined by the most recent
offsite dose assessment information.
8.2.
The Field Staff technician will receive the sampling locations from the EC.
8.3.
Collect samples of non-woody forbs, grasses, and/or cultivated vegetation.
Vegetation will be severed using scissors or pruning shears no closer than 5 cm
from the point where the plant emerges from the soil to avoid soil contamination.
8.4.
A sufficient volume of sample will be taken and placed in a Nalgene® bag, an
equivalent plastic bag or container.
8.4.1.
Collect approximately 1000 grams wet sample weight. This may not
always be possible due to vegetation conditions caused by drought etc.
8.5.
Label the sample bag using an indelible marker with the location, date, and time
the sample was taken, field weight of sample and the SSTF#.
8.6.
Note pertinent information in the field sampling logbook or equivalent, including
the location, date and time of sample, description of sample location, site
conditions, weight of sample, and any unusual circumstances encountered during
the sampling effort.
8.7.
Clean sampling equipment following SOP-E-044 before proceeding to the next
sample location.
8.8.
Continue sampling until samples at all locations have been taken.
8.9.
For quality assurance purposes a duplicate sample will be collected at one of the
sampling locations.
8.9.1.
For the QA sample, collect double the amount or volume as for the regular
sample.
