Fan Replacement
Fan Replacement
The Vela CineCast Model 2000-0422 Quad Pro decoder is not designed to oper-
ate for extended periods of time without a properly functioning fan blower. If the
front panel LED display indicates a fan failure, or if it is otherwise determined
that the fan is inoperative (possibly during filter maintenance), then the fan must
be replaced. The fan can be replaced in a “hot swap” manner, i.e., while the unit is
powered up and operating. Please observe all electrical safety procedures while
performing the replacement. Replacement should be done by qualified personnel.
The fan removal and replacement procedure is as follows:
1. If desired, power down the unit by depressing the power switch. Although the
fan can be replaced while the unit is operating, it is recommended that the power
be shut off if the unit is off-line,
2. Disconnect the AC power cable from the rear of the unit if the unit is powered
down.
3. Important: Review electrical warning on page 1 of this chapter.
4. Remove the front cover. Front cover removal requires no tools. The cover is
removed by simply gripping and pulling the plastic front panel cover straight out.
5. Remove the four access screws for the fan tray (see Figure 4-1 for location of
fan access screws).
6. Remove the defective fan assembly.
7. Install the new fan assembly. The installation procedure is the reverse of the
removal procedure.
Power Supply Replacement
The HD/1 and HD/2 decoders ship with highly-reliable primary and secondary
power supplies, providing operational redundancy. In the unlikely event of a
power supply failure, the first step in the replacement process is to identify which
power supply has failed. This is done by observing the power supply indicator on
the front panel LED display:
•
Steady-on
indicates a
secondary
power supply failure.
•
Flashing
indicates a
primary
power supply failure.
The primary power supply is the located closest to the power switch. The secondary
supply is located to the left of the fan access panel and will be marked “aux” or
“secondary” (see Figure 4-1). Both supplies are accessible from the front panel.
The power supplies used in CineCast HD/1 and HD/2 decoders are not
“hot-swappable.” The unit(s) must be powered down before replacement.
