MPEG Decoder Playback Errors
MPEG Data Underflow
This condition results from either (1), the starvation of data during playback; or
(2), the end of data in the buffers was reached before terminal frame count was
reached.
This is a fatal playback error, in which the decoder informs the host system that
playback has stopped. A
RESET
BUFFER
command, new data, and a new
PLAY
AUDIO
/
VIDEO
command are required before playback can resume or start again.
MEDIUM ERROR, END-OF-DATA DETECTED
MPEG Data Overflow
This condition occurs only when the specified frame count is much smaller than

The sense data will be set to:

REQUEST
SENSE
. The Condition Met status is
sufficient to detect this playback condition.)
This is a non-fatal warning which informs the host system that the terminal frame
count will be reached in two frame times. The host system should stop sending
MPEG data to the decoder, since enough data resides in the decoder’s buffers to
play out the remaining two frames.
After the host receives Condition Met, the host should queue up the next playback
(i.e.
RESET
BUFFER
command, new MPEG data, and a new
PLAY
AUDIO
/
VIDEO
com-
mand). The amount of time the host has to set up the next playback is two frames
plus the amount of post-black set in the most recent

/
VIDEO
command.
MPEG WRITE while not playing
This is a fatal playback error, in which the decoder informs the host system that
