Adjustments and operations
Basic digging technique:
When you start digging, do the first shallow cutting of each section, being careful to
exactly follow the outline defined for digging. The reason for a shallow cutting is to minimize
the damage to the upper part of the opening.
These first cuttings are also important because they will serve as guides for the
following ones. Therefore, if the first cuttings are well done, the following ones will be as well.
To dig with the backhoe, extend the boom, the dipper and the bucket to the front.
Lower the boom and the dipper to start the digging process.
The bucket teeth should be inclined around 30 - 45 degrees. When you start digging,
pull up the bucket to the point at which the cutting edge is leveled with the horizon. Fill the
bucket in the direction of the operator, working with the bucket control lever to maintain its
level. When the bucket moves away from the operator, handle the dipper lever to maintain
the cutting level.
At the end of the digging cycle, pull the bucket up completely and extend the dipper
while raising it out of the digging. Only when the dipper is out of the digging place the
bucket must be displaced to the pile of earth. Start dumping the earth from the bucket
before reaching the pile. With the bucket now empty, return it to the digging, positioning
the bucket and the boom for the next cutting in the process. All the digging process must
have a soft cycle, which should be repeated until the whole digging is completed.
When you have dug about 15 cm of the targeted depth, clean and finish the ditch walls.
Use the flat sides of the bucket to finish the protusions. Remove any opposite stones which
seem loose. When adjusting the walls, start with the farthest ones, moving the bucket and
the boom outwards and forcing the bucket down. To adjust the nearest wall, raise and pull
up the bucket.
