CHAIN CLEANING AND LUBRICATION
Lubricate the chain (1) following the instructions below.
CAUTION
Never use grease to lubricate the chain.
Grease causes dust and mud build-up,
which act as abrasives and cause the
rapid wear of the chain and the front and
rear sprockets.
CAUTION
The chain lubricant must NEVER come into
contact with the tyres or the rear brake
disc.
Washing the chain without O-rings
Wash using specific sprays for chains without O-rings;
alternatively wash with petroleum or naphtha; if petrol
or especially trichlorethylene is used, dry and lubricate
it to prevent oxidation.
Lubricating the chain without O-rings
Lubricate using specific sprays with the aid of a brush,
both internally and externally; alternatively use engine
oil with SAE 80-90 viscosity.
Chain guide roller, chain guide eye, chain slider
Check the wear of the above-mentioned components
and replace them when necessary.
Note
As an alternative, suitable spray lubricants can be
used.
CAUTION
Check the chain guide alignment. If it
is bent, it may interfere with the chain
causing rapid wear. The chain may also
unwrap from the sprocket.
