Argon Gas System
The gi4000 ESU features a proprietary integrated argon gas system, which replaces the need
for users to purchase and maintain separate equipment, hoses and tanks in order to use argon
plasma coagulation.
Figure 7-11
When using Argon Method, the argon gas for the gi4000 ESU is exclusively supplied by the
STERIS Endoscopy argon gas bottle. Each bottle contains 49 liters of ultra-high purity
(99.999% pure) argon gas (certified). Argon, an inert gas, is heavier than air with a NFPA
rating of zero flammability and zero reactivity.
Each argon gas bottle is fitted with a hand grip to assist the user in installing and removing
the bottle, and to minimize rolling when placed on a horizontal surface. The grip is to be
discarded along with the argon bottle when empty.
The integrated argon system is designed for use with STERIS Endoscopy ArConnect® argon
probe connector. The single-use, ArConnect® argon probe connector has a standard argon
plasma coagulation (APC) probe connector fitting which is compatible with many APC probes
on the market. Attach disposable argon probes to the gi4000 ESU using the single-use
ArConnect® argon probe connector.
The gi4000 ESU is equipped with a proprietary positive forward pressure control system that
maintains positive pressure in the ArConnect® argon probe connector in order to prevent any
back flow of fluid from the patient into the ArConnect® or the gi4000 ESU. The ArConnect®
tubing is clear in color. If any fluid is observed in the ArConnect® tubing, it should be discarded
and replaced.
NOTE:
Argon is classified as a "non-hazardous" gas. See the Safety
Data Sheet (SDS) on the STERIS Endoscopy web site for further
information.
