the eco Gen 3.1 is connected to the micro-grid
terminals inside the storage system. The storage
system’s built-in transfer switch will disconnect
the utility connection should the utility grid
stop providing power, and the micro-grid will be
powered by the PV array and the battery modules.
It is also possible to connect a generator (up
to 50 amps) to charge the batteries in the event
they are discharged and neither the grid nor solar
power is available, with excess generator power
going to loads.
1. Install disconnect switch (optional)
It is recommended to install a service
disconnect switch between the storage system
and grid power. Consult local NEC (National
Electric Code) and AHJ (Authority having
jurisdiction) for guidance.
2. Install junction box for splicers (optional)
If desired, install a junction box to house in-line
splicers to reduce the size of the cable run from
the distribution panel to the storage system.
3. Run cables into the storage system
Using the holes in the top left corner of the main
cabinet as shown in "Place conduits", insert cables
of the appropriate wire gauge and ampacity for
utility grid connection, micro-grid connection, and
optional generator connection.
Sonnen has created the
appropriate number and size
conduit penetrations for a typical
installation. Every attempt should
be made to follow this conduit
legend to facilitate proper wire
installation to the unit. Making
new or enlarging existing conduit
penetrations will void the system's
warranty.
4. Prepare cable and strip wires

Strip 1 inch of insulation from the L1, L2, and N
cables.
5. Confirm transfer switch has full range of
movement
Using the black plastic actuator, ensure the
automatic transfer switch has a full and complete
range of movement.
