TEST ELECTRIC LIFT MOTOR
Before performing this test, remove the mower deck or
attachment, turn the ignition switch to OFF and
remove the key, disconnect the negative battery
cable, disengage the PTO switch, put the ground
speed control lever in the neutral gate, and set the
parking brake.
1. Locate the electric lift motor under the right rear fend-
er and locate the red and black wires coming out of
the motor.
2. Disconnect the black and red wire connectors.
3. Using a battery or other 12 VDC power supply, con-
nect a jumper lead from the negative battery post to
the black lift motor wire connector.
4. Connect a jumper wire to the positive battery post
and touch the red lift motor wire connector. The lift
should go up.
5. Reverse the connections on the battery and connect
to the lift motor wires. The lift should go down.
6. Reconnect the lift motor wires to their original con-
nectors.
If the motor passes this test, the problem lies in the
wiring, connections, or switch.
TEST ELECTRIC LIFT SWITCH
1. Open the hood; locate and remove the wire harness
plug from the back of the electric lift switch.
2. Remove the electric lift switch from the dash for test-
ing.
3. Set the VOM to Ohms.

4. Press the RAISE ATTACHMENT side of the switch
and test the terminals as shown in Figure 46 Top for
continuity. There should be continuity.
5. Press the LOWER ATTACHMENT side of the switch
and test the terminals as shown in Figure 46 Bottom
for continuity. Again, there should be continuity.
If the switch fails either of these tests, replace it. If
the switch tests OK and the motor is functioning
properly, the problem lies in the wires, connections,
ignition switch,or power supply.
