8 Mower Deck Repair
Idler Pulley Service
Idler Pulley Service
Inspect the idler pulleys by removing the belt and careful-
ly rotating the pulley by hand. If the bearing has a
noticeable “tick,” feels rough or gritty, or wobbles, it
should be replaced. New bearings may feel stiff but will
rotate smoothly.
Refer to Figure 3 for specific assembly and part informa-
tion.
1. Remove the mower deck (see Mower Deck Removal
and Installation).
2. For PTO idler pulley (B, Figure 13) service, remove
the PTO Belt as described in PTO Belt Service. For
arbor drive idler pulley (H) service remove the arbor
drive belt as described in Arbor Drive Belt Service.

3. Remove the nut and carriage bolt (D or F) securing
the idler pulley to the idler lever (C) or idler arm (E).
4. Install the new idler pulley by following steps 3
through 1 in reverse order.
