Air supply connection

•  This tool should be connected to a clean, dry air supply with inline oiler

and water separator

•  Do not allow supply pressure to exceed the maximum stated

(see ‘Specifications’)

•  Ensure that water is drained from air system daily
•  Ensure that all parts of the system (hoses, couplers, etc.) are correctly

rated for the air pressure to be used

Attaching the Backing Pad

1. Screw the Backing Pad (6) into the Drive Spindle (8) turning clockwise.

Tighten by hand

2. Use a suitable spanner (not included) to stop the Drive Spindle (8)

rotating if needed

3. Adopt this procedure to remove the backing pad, but turn

anti-clockwise to unscrew

Attaching sanding disc

Note:

Only use abrasive sanding discs of 150mm diameter,

with adhesive backing.

1. Remove old sanding sheets by pulling them off the adhesive

backing pad

2. Centre new sanding sheet correctly on the Backing Pad (6)
3. Push the sanding sheet onto the adhesive backing pad and check it is

securely attached

Setting tool power

1. The maximum power of the tool can be adjusted
2. Hold the product firmly, without the Backing Pad (6) attached
3. Squeeze the Speed Control (3) fully
4. Whilst holding the Speed Control (3), turn the Power Regulator

(2) slowly

Note:

As it turns you will hear the power increase and decrease

5. Set as required
6. Release the Speed Control (3)

Changing orbital mode

WARNING:

Disconnect tool from air supply before making any adjustments.

This product has two modes:

Fixed orbit:

The sanding pad will rotate ONLY around its central axis, like a

wheel. It creates a circular pattern on the sanded material.

1. In fixed orbit, the Drive Spindle (8) and Backing Pad (6) do not rotate

freely around their axis

2. To select fixed orbit, rotate the Spindle Lock (7) so that the knurled

face lines up with the flat on the Drive Spindle (8), see Fig. B

3. Check that the Drive Spindle (8) cannot rotate fully, it should stop when

it touches the Spindle Lock (7)

Random orbit:

The sanding pad orbits around its eccentric path. It creates

a random sanding pattern in all directions on the sanded material.

1. In random orbit, the Drive Spindle (8) and Backing Pad (6) can rotate

freely and fully around their axis

2. To select random orbit, rotate the Spindle Lock (7) so that one flat side

faces the Drive Spindle (8), see Fig. A

3. Check the Drive Spindle (8) is able to rotate fully through 360°,

and does not touch the Spindle Lock (7)

Operation

Note:

It is advised that you practice using this tool on a piece of scrap

wood. Try it in both orbital modes (see ‘Changing orbital mode’) to
familiarise yourself with each.

1. Grip the main handle firmly with one hand, so your thumb can operate

the Speed Control (3)

2. Hold the Body Cover (1) with your other hand, to control the tool and

apply pressure to the workpiece

3. Firstly squeeze the Speed Control (3) gently to familiarise yourself to

the way the tool operates

Note:

You can adjust the speed of the tool by adjusting the pressure you

apply to the Speed Control (3).

4. Begin by holding the tool gently against the workpiece, and slowly

building up speed and pressure

WARNING:

The friction between abrasive and material will cause heat.

Check the workpiece frequently to ensure it does not burn.

WARNING:

Be aware that air tools may hold residual pressure after use.

Always bleed air pressure from the tool after shutting off air supply.

Accessories

•  Accessories for this tool including adhesive sanding discs are available

from your Silverline stockist. Spare parts can be obtained from your
Silverline dealer or www.toolsparesonline.com

Maintenance

WARNING:

Always disconnect from the air supply and depressurise before

cleaning or carrying out any maintenance.

Cleaning

•  Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts

to wear quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of
your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth

IMPORTANT:

There is very little that can go wrong with your air tool and it

should be noted that when an air tool fails to work it is generally because
the internal workings have corroded due to dirty, wet air and failure to
follow the instructions given below.

Daily maintenance procedure:

Disconnect from the air supply, pour the

equivalent of a tablespoon of oil into the air intake. Operate the machine at
low speed to thoroughly lubricate all internal workings.
•  If the machine is in constant use or used for long periods at a time,

a combined filter/lubricator must be fitted. There must be an air filter
fitted at all times

•  Use air tool oil. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE NORMAL

ENGINE OIL

•  Failure to comply with the operating and maintenance instructions may

invalidate the guarantee

Storage

•  Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children

Disposal

•  As with other power tools, air tools should not be disposed of with

household waste

•  Air tools may contain traces of tool oil and other lubricants and so must

be recycled accordingly

•  Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct

way to dispose of power tools
