Overview of components for distributed drive technology

SINAMICS S120M is the distributed version of the SINAMICS S120 booksize family. 

Hardware

To set up a SINAMICS S120M distributed drive system, use the following components:
● Adapter Module 600 (AM600)

The AM600 is integrated into the drive line-up and satisfies the characteristics of central 

components.

● Hybrid Cabinet Bushing (HCB)

The HCB is installed in the control cabinet panel and satisfies the characteristics of central 

components.

● Hybrid cable (connection system)
● DRIVE-CLiQ extension (DQE)
● S120M (1FK7 synchronous motor with integrated Power Module encoder)

Functionality of distributed drive technology

● The 24 V electronics power supply is either provided from an external supply or from a 

Control Supply Module (CSM). The supply can also be taken from the central drive line-up 

using the 24 V terminal connector.

● Use of the Line Modules (ALM, BLM or SLM) from the SINAMICS S120 product family.
● The Adapter Module 600 opens a line of distributed S120M drives. It feeds the DC link, 

auxiliary voltage, and DRIVE-CLiQ in a hybrid cable. 

● If you want to operate several S120M drives, the number that you can operate depends on 

the central Control Unit you are using. If an additional Control Unit is used, the closed-loop 

control signals are fed into the line via a DRIVE-CLiQ Extension. 

● The AM600, DRIVE-CLiQ Extension, and Hybrid Cabinet Bushing are not "visible" DRIVE-

CLiQ nodes in the topology. The number of DRIVE-CLiQ Extensions is not restricted.

● As Control Unit or control, all multi-axis CUs in the SINAMICS/SIMOTION/SINUMERIK 

range can be used (CU320-2, D4xx-2, CX32-2, NCUxx). The releases of the S120M on the 

corresponding systems are published via the Siemens Industry Online Support Portal (http://

support.automation.siemens.com).
