Review of the power budget during planning with STEP 7 V12
Compliance with the power budget is reviewed during planning by STEP 7 V12.
To access the power budget information, follow these steps:
1.
In the device view of the STEP 7 hardware network editor, select the interface module.
2.
In the properties under "General" select the "Power Supply" area.
3.
Under "Power Balance Calculation" the slots for which the planned modules draw more
power from the backplane bus than is fed in are shown in red. A corresponding message
is displayed.
If STEP 7 calculates a negative power budget after compilation of the project, then a
corresponding warning will appear.
Check of the power budget by the interface module
Upon powering the interface module on, and upon every change in the configuration.
Results of the power budget
●
If the budget is positive, then there is no overload.
●
If the budget is negative, then there is an overload.
Causes for overload
The cause for overload can be that the hardware configuration does not correspond to the
planning in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V12 and above, e.g.:
●
More I/O modules are inserted, than were planned
●
A power supply module that is necessary for operation is not inserted
●
A power supply module that is necessary for operation is not switched on (power cable
connector and on/off switch)
●
A power supply module that is necessary for operation has no U connector inserted
●
The interface module is not supplied with 24 V DC on the front
Behavior during overload
As a result of the overload, the interface module switches all power segments off (see
chapter Setting up power segments (Page 36)). The I/O controller can no longer access the
I/O modules. The interface module provides diagnostic information and periodically checks
the connection to the backplane bus and re-establishes it as soon as possible.
Exception: In the case of a voltage drop or a hardware fault in power segment 2 or 3, the
corresponding power supply module switches its (and where applicable the following) power
segment off, and if possible generates a diagnostic message.
Further information on the behavior of the power supply (PS) modules in case of faults can
be found in the Product Manuals for the power supply modules.
