8.2.4
The multi-function reactor (oxidation)
The Reactor can be used for the oxidation of Organic Carbon. It contains a volume of the sample
to by oxidised. It comprises a special UV lamp, glassware and an injection/distribution/draining system.
When the sample passes inside the oxidation reactor, the organic carbon is transformed into CO
2
gas, which will be measured.
WARNING: Use anti-UV protective glasses if an operation must be carried out on the entire
system, which is protected by the protective cover on which are stuck the safety labels (UV and
Temperature).
8.2.5
The Condenser
This system is used to recover the condensation drops, which are part of the sample
being analysed, and to dry the CO
2
gas to be measured prior to being injected inside the measuring cell.
8.2.6
The measuring cell (NDIR)
The created and cooled CO
2
gas circulates inside the temperature-controlled IR measuring cell,
which generates a signal proportional to the quantity of CO
2
. It consists of:
-
An infrared source (transmitter).
-
A detector equipped with an interference filter set on the CO
2
band.
The material is glass, which reduces clogging and makes this NDIR robust with respect to the
possible accidental presence of water.
