In principle, station switching is only pro-
vided for programs with a precise PI code.
However, if the reception is poor it may
switch automatically to another station
belonging to a local station with similar
programs.
You can select "auto" or "off" for the RDS-
Regional function on the ""A

Once switched on, the set will search
for the best reception frequency for the
selected program in the location of the
vehicle. Depending on the reception con-
ditions and the number of alternative fre-
quencies the set may stay connected
without sound for several seconds.
•
Information processing may take sev-
eral minutes depending on the power of
the incoming signal.
•
If the signals are very weak information
processing will not be possible. In this
case instead of the RDS name the fre-
quency will appear on the tuner status bar
or Info field.
•
When the reception conditions are poor
(i.e. in the mountains) the set frequently
checks for alternative frequencies. Hence
the set may go mute briefly.
•
The RDS function may disconnect tem-
porarily if there is mute sound and false
modulations when reception is extremely
poor.

Many FM stations broadcast update traffic
news regularly for their coverage area.
•
After selecting a station it checks
whether the selected program offers traf-
fic announcements.
•
The station tuned is a TP station (in the
basic radio tuner menu the identification
"TP" appears behind the program name
on the Info field). The station remains
activated. The "Availability for traffic
announcements" and "EON" functions are
activated.
•
When the tuned station does not broad-
cast traffic announcements or announce-
ments
cannot
be received the set
searches automatically for another traffic
news station in the coverage area. The
radio information display shows "TP
SEEK".

The set recognizes a traffic announce-
ment by its identification so that you can
listen to a traffic announcement even
when the radio volume is "very low" or a
CD is playing. Playback is in Mono. The
radio information display shows "Info". At
the same time the announcement is
recorded in the Traffic Information Memo
(TIM). See page 25.
