6.9.5 Network
This menu is used to configure the networking options of the DVR
.
Type
This option configures the type of network connection (Ethernet/xDSL) the DVR is connected
to. If the DVR's connection is leased, cable or LAN, this option must be set to "Ethernet". If
the DVR is connected to a PPPoE type xDSL connection, the option must be set to "xDSL"
.
However, if the connection is xDSL but not PPPoE, this option must be set to "Ethernet".
DHCP
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a system used to manage host address in a
network. Using protocols such as DHCP, all hosts connected to the LAN may share public IPs
when connected to the Internet. In other words, all hosts connected to LAN receives temporary
public IPs from the DHCP servers. If the LAN system possesses a DHCP server and an
active DHCP menu, the DHCP will allot public IPs on the DVRs.
"DHCP" is only available for LAN environments with an active DHCP server. Usually, medium to
large LANs have active DHCP servers. For small LANs, it is standard to use the HUB's NAT
(Network Address Translation) instead.
IP Addr
For the DVR to communicate with Network Manager and Web viewer, an IP address for the
DVR is required. However, this option is available only when Net Mask and Gateway have been
set up.
Net Mask
Net Mask defines the range of area of possible IP addresses. It also allows IP addresses of the
