Installation on a Vehicle Roof Rack
SUV and VIP vehicle installations are usually done on a roof rack. The antenna is
clamped onto crossbars of the roof rack.
Figure 19: Crossbar positioning on roof rack
This procedure uses the adjustable, padded clamp kit described Notes About Clamp
Installation, on page 16.
This procedure assumes that a suitable roof rack or mounting legs are installed on
the roof of the vehicle. The roof rack crossbars must be 95.25 cm apart, measured
center-to-center.
Install the antenna as far away as possible from any satellite radio antennas to
prevent interference.
Make sure the user is aware of the new maximum height of the
vehicle (unloaded) with the antenna installed on the roof. Use
caution when driving under overpasses, tree limbs, into garages and
into low clearance areas.
To install the antenna on a roof rack:
1. Perform a thorough inspection to make sure the roof rack is secure and not
damaged and can support the weight of the antenna under foreseeable driving
conditions.
2. Place a soft cloth or moving towel onto the roof surface to protect from
scratching and damage during the installation.
3. Ensure that the rubber pads on the upper bracket assemblies installed on the
antenna are secure.

4. Using two people, place the antenna on the roof rack.
5. Orient the antenna so that the antenna cable connectors are located in the
direction of the point of entry to the vehicle (usually toward the rear of the
vehicle). See Selecting the Location on the Rooftop, on page 15.
