Installing the Antenna on a Vehicle

Roof

The following sections describes the types of antenna installation:

Installation on a Vehicle Roof Rack, on page 19

Installation on a Bus, on page 21

Installation on a Double Decker Bus, on page 25

Installation on a Train, on page 27

Before You Start

The following notes apply to all applications.

Selecting the Location on the Rooftop

Consider these guidelines when determining a location for the antenna:

Position or Connectors

 - Determine where the antenna cables will enter the

vehicle. This is usually in the cab area or close to where the power source is
located. When placing the antenna on the roof, the end of the antenna with the

TNC connectors should be facing the point of entry of cables into the vehicle.

Figure 10: Position connectors facing cable entry point to vehicle

Line of Site

 - The SR1500 system needs to have a clear line of sight (LOS) to the

northern sky in order to receive the satellite signal. Placing the antenna too

close to other equipment on the roof, such as AC units, may interfere with the
signal reception. Use the chart below to determine the minimum distance

needed between the antenna and a potential LOS blockage.

Figure 11: Measure from base of antenna to obstacle on the roof

Table 3: Minimum distance needed between antenna and other objects
