Terminology
In this section, we introduce the terms that are used for the storage system throughout this
manual.
RAID
RAID is the abbreviation of Redundant Array of Independent Disks. There are different RAID
levels with different degrees of data protection, data availability, and performance to the host
environment.
Pools
A storage pool is a collection of disk drives. One pool consists of a set of volumes and owns one
RAID level attribute.
Volumes
Each pool can be divided into several volumes. The volumes from one pool have the same RAID
level, but may have different volume capacity.
LUN
A LUN (Logical Unit Number) is a unique identifier for designating an individual or collection of
physical or virtual storage devices that execute I/O commands with a host computer, as defined
by the SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) standard.
