Recording to DVD-R DL/DVD+R DL
discs
Reco r ding to DVD-R DL/DVD+R DL discs is
gene r ally the same as r eco r ding to r egula r
single-laye r discs; howeve r , p lease note the
following p oints:
• When the r eco r de r switches f r om the
fi r st laye r to the second du r ing r eco r ding
a DVD-R DL (Video mode) disc, a new
title is automatically sta
r ted on the new
laye r .
• U p to 99 titles can be r eco r ded on a
DVD-R DL (Video mode) disc. If the 99th
title is being
r eco r ded when the laye r is
switched, r eco r ding will sto p .
• U p to 49 titles can be r eco r ded on a
DVD+R DL disc.
• You cannot p lay, r eco r d additional
mate r ial to, edit o r finalize a DVD-R DL o r
DVD+R DL disc that has been r eco r ded
on but not yet finalized on anothe r DVD
r eco r de r .
About HDD recording
Reco r ding to the ha r d disk d r ive (HDD) is
ve r y flexible; you have the full choice of
r eco r ding quality o p tions, including manual
mode, and of cou r se you can r eco r d, e r ase
and r e- r eco r d as many times as you like.
The ca p acity of the ha r d disk d r ive means
that you can sto r e many hou r s of video on it,
even using the highe r quality r eco r ding
modes.
Important
• The maximum numbe r of titles/cha p te r s
p e r title that can be r eco r ded on the
HDD is 999 and 99 r es p ectively. No mo r e
r eco r ding is p ossible on the HDD afte r
the maximum numbe r of titles has been
r eached.
• The maximum continuous r eco r ding
time fo r one title is 12 hou r s.
HDD Video mode compatibility
When r eco r ding to the HDD you can choose
to r eco r d in one of two fo r mats. Set the
fo r mat f r om the HDD Reco r ding Fo r mat
item in the Initial Setu p menu (see
p age 118).
When set to Video Mode On, high-s p eed
co p ying f r om HDD to DVD-R/-RW (Video
mode) o r DVD+R/+RW is p ossible. When
r eco r ding a b r oadcast with a Seconda r y
Audio P r og r amme (SAP) channel, set which
channel you want to r eco r d f r om the Initial
Setu p menu (see
Dual Mono Recording
on
p age 114).
When HDD Reco r ding Fo r mat is set to Video
Mode Off, high-s p eed co p ying f r om HDD to
DVD-R/-RW (Video mode) o r DVD+R/+RW
isn’t p ossible. Howeve r , both the main and
SAP channels a r e r eco r ded and you can
switch the audio on p layback.
Recorded audio
In all modes exce p t the LPCM mode, sound
is r eco r ded in two channels in the Dolby
Digital fo r mat. (The sound can be r eco r ded
in the Dolby Digital 5.1-channel fo r mat only
when video with Dolby Digital 5.1-channel
audio is co
p ied f r om an HDD camco r de r .)
When set to
LPCM
, sound is r eco r ded in
high quality, uncom pr essed Linea r PCM
fo r mat.
If the b r oadcast audio has a SAP channel
and you a r e r eco r ding to Video mode DVD-R/
-RW, DVD+R/+RW, o r to the HDD with the
HDD Reco r ding Fo r mat set to Video Mode
On, o r on the
LPCM
setting, use the
AUDIO
button to select the
Mono
,
Stereo
o r
SAP
audio channel to r eco r d befo r e r eco r ding
sta r ts. In othe r cases, if SAP is selected then
both the main and SAP audio channels will
be
r eco r ded and you can switch on p layback.
