RS-485 Directional Control
Many third party communication drivers use the RTS signal to switch between transceiver receive and
transmit mode. Conversely, some drivers expect the line directional control to be automatic. The
XT/IX/PCA PowerStations have an RS-485 transceiver circuit with an automatic direction control feature
that will automatically switch between receive and transmit modes. Normally the transceiver is waiting to
receive data, but it will switch to transmit mode as soon as it senses data on the TxD pin of the UART and
switch back to receive mode when data transmission is complete.
Serial Port COM1
COM1 is a standard type DB-9M serial port provided for direct connection to serial devices. It can be
configured for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 communications. Configuration of this port is controlled by two
features that must be configured to set the desired communications method. Configure both the hardware
switch settings below (
S_422 and S_232 Switch Settings ) AND make the corresponding BIOS setup
selection in the Advanced settings tab; Advanced/F81216 Super IO Configuration/Serial Port 1
Configuration [RS-232 is the default communication method] .
Caution Failure to set both the S_422 and S_232 Switch Settings outlined below
AND the corresponding BIOS Setup selection:
Advanced/F81216 Super IO Configuration/Serial Port 1 Configuration
to set the communications mode of this port will cause unexpected
communications from serial port COM1.
